How to play through the yips with your short putts

November 25th 2006 20:19
Okay, pros and amatuers constantly talk about how to beat the yips forever. They say they'll never resurface as long as you can gain confidence in your approach and short putt technique. That's all hogwash fellow duffers. The yips are a matter of fear in not
being able to make short putts, especially if a lot of money is on the line for pros.
The only way you can start to make those short putts is to practice them constantly,
learning how to keep a beat on how much force and speed you should be using.
it's like I said in an earlier article, Phil Mickelson practices short putts, and tap-ins like

crazy.
You'll eventually gain that ability to make them regularly, and a mindset that says I will
make this shot. Some of your best shots can be had just playing through the fear and
doing it, regardless of the outcome. The only way to do that is practicing those shorties
consistently. Can you cure the yips, no. But, you can bring back the focus you need to
drop those important short putts.
