Keeping Putting Simple
By Mark Grove
It's not so important to shoot for par regularly than to improve various aspects of your game, which have a larger impact on it than anything else. You're probably asking, what's the point here? Your putting will always be the catalyst that keeps your game low,so to speak. What I mean by that is breaking certain plateaus by fine tuning your whole game.Keeping it simple is important. Doing shots that are easy for you like your drives and chip shots,do nothing---- and should be done less, if your problem is your putting.
Little Techniques to refine your putting:
1: Start off putting really close to the hole, that way you can get a feel for short putts and eventually move back farther. This is a smart way to putt, and you will gain more control over your putts by doing so.
2: Rather than learning to use perfect or proper mechanics, learn how a green flows to the cup by continuous practice, and adjust your putt accordingly.
3: When putting, if the green you're on has a nasty downslope after the cup--back off from
trying to drain your shot, and just strike the ball close to the hole without going past the
green totally. This will take a lot of work,so practice these types of putts on a regular basis.
4
speed of the ball is more important than trying to achieve the perfect back swing or stroke length.
Work with a Golf Pro locally, and read Golf Digest to refine your game.Even though these tips are coming from the pros, use the tips that apply to the level you are at.Whether you're a 100 shooter or you're a 5 handicap. Pros don't know everything, but they're pros because they worked their butts off and slowly developed their game---and didn't stop working at it. So use these tips I've mentioned and start developing your short game.
