How to Make every putt count
By Mark Grove
This little tip can help you with every putt you ever make no matter how tough it is.When it comes to approaching every putt, the mental aspect of it can be more important than the putt it's self.Your ultimate goal in your putting plan
should be to never be in a hurry even if it's a little tap-in. Phil Mickelson, if you've ever watched him in tournament action practices tap-ins like a madman. Always be thinking where your shot to end up, especially if it's a long putt or you're in a play-off and it's down to the last putt. Taking your time and thinking about the shot especially in a pressure cooker situation will help you more than you think.Try to always take your time hitting your putts.
Don't fear making mistakes either.Use fear as an ally. When it comes down to
your pressure putts, when a million dollar purse is on the line, can make even
Tiger Woods or Phil tremble when an unknown comes out of the wood work
to threaten their possible win. If you use fear properly, and along with taking
your time thinking about your putts can slow down negative thinking and ---
make you embrace the putt that seems impossible even if you do choke or
fail. You will approach your putts with more ease and even keeled thinking.
Even if you do fail in your putt, you can't dwell on what you just did.
Think about how you want to approach your next putt. We always seem to
think about what we did wrong in our putts and it ingrains it's self in our minds
and takes over our next putt. Think about strategy to approach each putt and
how this integrates into helping you win a tournament, not just on your final
round score.
Mastery of your thinking while putting and not worrying about how accomplished
you are as a putter and overall golfer will help your mental attitude and taking
each putt.
